Padua

Today was spent in Padova, .... exploring, walking the streets and finding gems you never knew existed. Padua is a 13 minute train ride from Julie and GC's town of Pianiga.

The day started with a coffee at Pedrocchi's, an exclusive, traditional coffee house which pre-dates the Italian Republic, which has just celebrated their 150 Years. This coffee house has existed for over 180 years, and when in Padova......do as the Padovani do!!!.

Markets, markets markets! they are everywhere, in every piazza, along the river, in front of every church! The interesting thing is their variety, there are markets which specialise in clothing, others sell mostly footwear, and others again deal in smallgoods and produce. And the cheeses, salami and panini are to die for!

Bikes are the common mode of transport within the city, followed by scooters and motobikes. Needless to say, Paul has almost put a deposit on more than one scooter! He loves them! can't work out how to fit them in his bag, though!

Paul, admiring the view of the river which runs through the town.

Statues line the river's edge, markets in the background.People sit for lunch, stroll, take time out to enjoy the sunshine. this is 'La Bella Vita' !

One of the reasons to travel to Padua today was to
visit the Basilica of St Anthony. It was a beautiful experience, and meaniful to us for many reasons. We have lost so many loved ones over the years. S.Antonio was very special to some, especially to Nunna, Tony's mum, and so it was important to us to offer our prayers for these people in this magnificent church. A special  petition was written to St. Anthony  for Kim, Lisa, Nunna and Bob who we have lost in recent years.

St Anthony's tomb.

Faith is an overwhelming powerful presence in people's lives. Today, we saw many who waited patiently to touch the tomb and to offer their prayers.

The weather has been fantastic, clear blue skies every day so far. WE are very fortunate! seems that we bring this weather from Australia wherever we go!

Today was Madeleine's 19th birthday, Buon Compleano mio bella principessa.
To all the mothers, Buon Festa della Mamma per Domenica. hope you all have a happy day and your children are kind to you!

We must got and eat now, sharing a meal with GC's brothers and their families.

  1. Well Tina & Paul, there's no guessing how much fun you are having and what beautiful places you are seeing, Tina you describe the experience so well i feel like i'm there..!! Your bags may be heavy , it could have at least been because i'm in there!!! Also Tina, being Mother's Day today, mum has read your blog and said she wishes she could have been at Lake Como with you. Also, your spiritual experience in Italy sounds very profound and beautiful. Keep doing what you're doing. All is well here. Teresa x
